Development of feed programs to maintain intestinal health
The gastro-intestinal tract has an extensive area that provides direct
contact with dietary substances, microorganisms and endo-toxins. The
intestinal wall acts as a filter to allow passage of nutrients whilst
restricting the transfer of pathogenic organisms or their toxins from the
intestinal lumen to the systemic circulation.
The defense mechanisms
operating in the intestine can be immunologic or non-immunologic. Some
inorganic minerals, organic acids and antibacterial products, used as
growth promoting agents, are examples of non-immunologic influencers. Most
other materials cause an immune system reaction and are therefore
immunologic.
An understanding of digestive physiology, immunology,
endocrinology and bacteriology is essential to production of a dietary
program that can maintain intestinal health, maximize nutrient utilization
and minimize the potential adverse effects of pathogenic bacteria. Various
feed ingredients are now available that can be used to build a suitable
dietary regimen, including Mannan-oligosaccharides (MOS), Fructo-oligosaccharides
(FOS), Beta-glucans, Essential oils, Acid products, Organic trace
minerals, Enzymes and Yucca extracts.
NutriVision has many years of experience working in this area and
can help build a specific program to suit your need.

Production of pork quality enhancement programs

Many changes have occurred which increase the potential to produce
leaner pork. These include genetic improvement, better definition of
nutrient requirements, maintenance of healthier stock on farm and improved
handling of the animal pre-and post- slaughter. The increase in lean and
reduction of fat has created a new set of problems. Meat can be paler in
color, have more drip loss, be less tender depending on the preparation
and cooking method and tends to have less flavor.
Lower back fat and belly
fat levels result in softer fat, which is then difficult to process and
sometimes the lean and fat tissues separate having an adverse effect on
the appearance of the final pork product. Manipulation of the dietary
constituents in the latter stages of the finishing growth period can be
used to design a feeding program that can influence the quality of the
final pork product.
NutriVision has a broad appreciation of these dietary factors and how
to use them to manipulate various aspects of pork production for the
farmer and the meat processor.

Evolution of environmentally friendly
nutritional feed programs

The increase in size of pig production facilities has
increased the risk of environmental pollution. This issue has necessitated
the development of environmental controls to reduce both gas and nutrient
emissions. Changes to mechanical handling systems helps with the physical
management of the volume and land application of the excreta. Most of the
need to modify the gas production, odor emissions and nutrient content of
the manure will be best manipulated by nutritional methods. The lowering
of crude protein in the diet and use of more crystalline amino acids can
reduce nitrogen excretion. Phytase enzyme is widely used to reduce
phosphorus excretion. Yucca extracts in association with enzyme and
microbial products can help with odor. Organic trace minerals may assist
with reduction in copper and zinc excretion. The combination of all these
components to achieve the desired outcome, whilst maintaining optimum pig
performance, requires a good understanding of many aspects of biology in
the pig.
NutriVision can help you build a product and feed
program to minimize environmental issues.

Improvement to reproductive potential by
nutraceutical applications

The breeding animal is normally a high cost
investment. It is therefore crucial that the female produces the maximum
output of young during her reproductive lifetime and the male produces the
maximum number of doses of semen to enhance the genetic potential on farm.
The turnover rate of breeding animals is very high on many farms. Reasons
for loss of sows are poor reproduction and leg malfunctions. Much of
this is the result of the confinement systems in use today. Increased
production pressures necessitate new thinking in how to meet the
nutritional requirements within any set of given production
characteristics taking account of all the economic circumstances. The
production of 50-60 weaned pigs per sow lifetime should be achievable on
most farms.
NutriVision has experience working with
prolific female pigs in many different circumstances around the world and
can help you to achieve more from your current genetic program.

Technical and sales training

The “quality” of staff on farm or in a sales force will have a major
impact on the level of physical and financial performance achieved in that
business. “Quality” means many things. It relates to everyone
working on a common goal and having a clear understanding of the company
objectives. It includes technical knowledge, practical skills, and basic
understanding of the job and its value to the whole operation. Job
satisfaction for the staff, recognition and appreciation by the management for quality work completed,
is also part of quality.
There will be less staff turnover if the above criteria are satisfied.
Training programs need to meet the needs of the business, its customer
base and the individual member of staff. There is a need to build specific
training programs to meet these requirements. Education often means
interpretation, so that the information to be given is in a comprehensible
form for the recipient. The ability to translate science into meaningful
practical applications that achieve the desired effect is a skill in its
own right.
NutriVision has experience in the teaching profession and has been
involved in many different types of training activities.

Literature reviews
There is an increasing amount of information being published from
research organizations. The ability to use this is limited by the time
available for staff to find, read and assimilate the data. There is a need
for this activity to be outsourced to an independent company. Given a
clear understanding of the client’s needs, a review of the appropriate
scientific literature can be made and the information extracted and
translated into knowledge that will meet the client’s objectives. This
means customizing the search, which saves time and money for the client.
The result can be delivered in a timely manner leaving the staff to manage
and support the current business.
NutriVision has the academic background to source and understand the
research findings and produce a practical and commercial interpretation to
satisfy your requirement

Conference papers
Conferences can be classified as Academic
(for presentation of research papers), Industrial (for feed companies and
extension service) or Practical (for the farming community). The topics
and level of presentation of the data normally reflects the conference
audience.
NutriVision has presented many papers to
all categories and is well known for the style of presentation

Write technical articles and promotional
material
It is important for a company to keep a visible presence in
the market place for its products and services. Translation of the
features and benefits of a new product or concept into a marketable and
technical sales design requires a particular skill. The product or service
benefits must be clearly demonstrated and have an economic value to the
end user. The interpretation of the technical aspects into something
meaningful is critical to the success of the article or promotion. The
material must be attractive and interesting and warrant being saved for
future reference. The use of different types of material, styles and
layouts can be used to advantage
and includes leaflets, booklets, mail out pieces, Email pieces, use of
websites, cassette tapes, CDs and power-point presentations.
NutriVision has both technical and marketing
experience and can put these skills to use for your company.

Consultation and advisory service to company research programs

Many commercial companies have their own research programs. Topics and
ideas for research projects are frequently derived solely from technical,
sales and marketing departments within the company. This approach can be
self-limiting and the use of an independent resource as an extension of
the team can frequently introduce new concepts for consideration. Outsourcing
the opportunity to capture new ideas for research can bring a totally
different dimension to the attention of the management group. A
constructive critique of a company’s research program, and even individual
trial protocols, can often identify flaws in the design and save time
and money by avoiding experimentation that may not generate the expected
outcome.
NutriVision has actively managed research programs over many years
and can assist in an advisory capacity to your company

Research trial set-up, monitoring, analysis and reporting.

University research trials identify new areas for evaluation and
frequently assist in explaining mode of action. Application to practical
circumstances normally requires some evaluation on farm. This can be very
time-consuming for companies and their staff. Often field trials, with
less control and greater variation, need special set-up procedures to
ensure adequate replication and simple data collection systems to achieve
a credible result. A close working relationship with farm staff and the
supervision of the project will ensure a positive outcome.
NutriVision has experience in this area and can coordinate all your
day-to-day requirements for farm trials.

Conduct market surveys
There are
an increasing number of products entering the market. It is important to
have robust market information to be sure that there is a need for the new
product or concept and that the need is real and timely. Faster market
penetration will occur if all the appropriate background work is done
before launching the product. There are a lot of diverse market sectors and
they all have different motives for considering the new product. The
technical merit and sales offering must be geared accordingly to be able
to obtain a buying signal and capitalize on the selling opportunity.
NutriVision has marketing experience and has many contacts within the
agricultural industries in North America and internationally.
